The exam

You already know MRCP is hard. The problem is knowing where you stand.

MRCP Part 1 is the first gate into physician training, and it asks a lot. Two papers, two hundred questions, seventeen specialties and the clinical sciences underneath all of them. The hard part usually is not the work you put in. It is knowing whether it is the right work.

  • Everything is on the syllabus

Seventeen specialties plus the clinical sciences underneath all of them. You can revise for months and still feel like you have only seen a corner of it.

  • The job does not pause for the exam

You revise after a run of nights, in the gaps between patients, on a commute you can barely keep your eyes open for. Clean study time is a luxury you rarely get.

  • Thousands of questions, no real signal

A question bank tells you what you got wrong yesterday. It does not tell you whether you are ready for the paper in front of you. That uncertainty is the hardest part to sit with.

  • Volume for the sake of volume

Most banks measure themselves in question count. More questions is not the same as the right questions, in the right order, at the time you actually need them.

  • Almost ready is a hard place to be

Walking in hoping it goes your way is its own kind of stress. You want to know where you stand before exam day, not find out on it.
